Description (Service) Administration of electoral legislation
  • registering political parties and third parties engaged in election advertising
  • maintenance of the National Register of Electors
  • appointing and instructing returning officers
  • disclosing contributions to candidates, political parties, and to electoral district associations, leadership contestants and nominations contestants of registered parties
  • examining and disclosing financial returns
  • reimbursing expenses to candidates and parties
Providing legal, technical, financial, and administrative support

Ensuring access to the system for all eligible citizens through:
  • physical facilities
  • public education
  • information programs
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm, ET
Eligibility Canadian citizens who are 18 or older on polling day
Languages English, French
Application Eligible people can call to confirm if they are registered. Electors not listed in the National Register of Electors must provide documents (see below). Registration can be done online through the Online Registration Service, in person at any local Elections Canada office until the Tuesday before election day, 6 pm; or at the polls on election day or advance polling days.
