Description (Service)

Supports internationally educated professionals to obtain employment in their field. Clients are matched with a volunteer Career Mentor working in the same or a related field. Mentors and mentees meet weekly.

During these meetings, the mentor will offer guidance and support with respect to:

  • developing career objectives
  • Canadian workplace language, culture, and etiquette
  • employment research strategies
  • employer engagement strategies
  • networking opportunities - informational meetings, networking events, professional associations, etc.
  • employment application preparation
  • resume, cover letter & interview preparation
  • overall guidance and encouragement
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm
Eligibility Participants:
  • landed immigrants or Convention refugees
  • internationally educated professionals (IEP)
  • international trained in health, education, STEM, trades, or transportation
  • language assessment level 6 or higher
  • Ontario resident
  • employment ready

Mentors:
  • at least 2 years of work experience in Ottawa and contacts in employment and professional networks
  • commitment: at least three months, one hour a week
  • sensitivity to employment and cultural transition experiences
