Description (Service)

Program that helps families develop plans and find solutions to problems concerning the care of children and youth

  • offers alternatives to court for child welfare agencies and their clients
  • operates independently from Children's Aid Agencies
  • allows families to be more active participants in decisions made about the care of their children and decisions to be made more quickly
  • Facilitators do not make decisions about the care of children; rather, their role is to facilitate the processes

Two services available to families:

Child Protection Mediation

  • child protection workers, the family (including the child where appropriate) and any other person putting forward or proposing to participate in a plan for the child, work together with the aid of a trained and impartial child protection mediator to develop plans for the care of the children

Family Group Conference

  • bringing together the family (including the child where appropriate), the child's extended family and community, child protection workers, and service providers for a one-day conference to develop a plan addressing the concerns about the children protection concerns identified, a trained and impartial coordinator assists the participants throughout the process
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm

    For families involved with the five Children's Aid Agencies in Eastern Ontario:
  • Children's Aid Society of Ottawa

  • Children's Aid Society of the County of Renfrew

  • Valoris pour enfants et adultes de Prescott-Russell

  • Children's Aid Society of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry

  • Akwesasne Child and Family Services
