Description (Service) Mental health crisis line and access to a mental health crisis team

First point of public access to the mental health crisis response system
  • screening, assessment, referrals, support in a crisis, suicide intervention and transfer to the local crisis team or to emergency services when advisable
  • staffed by trained volunteers, supported by professional staff
The crisis team works closely with hospital emergency rooms, psychiatrists and police to ensure a safe and comprehensive response
  • crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, and links to community supports in a least intrusive approach to enable individuals in crisis to remain in their own environment
  • consultation and advice can be provided to family
  • follow-up and support can be provided for certain cases to help resolve the crisis
  • composed of crisis counsellors, registered nurses and/or social workers
