Description (Service) Specialize inpatient unit offering
  • psychiatric medical services
  • therapy
  • family-centered care
  • crisis stabilization
  • linkage to ongoing services to meet the needs of children or youth and their family.
Most inpatient stays are either:
  • 24 to 48 hours, for those who need short-term support to resolve a crisis; or
  • a few days or more, for those whose mental health difficulties need to be assessed and diagnosed, and treatments recommended.

Eligibility Children and youth 17 years and under with mental health issues
Languages English, French
Application Children can be admitted to the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit through CHEO's Emergency Department and mental health services or through a referral from a physician.
