Description (Service) Provincial advocacy and rights protection program of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care * protects and promotes the rights and entitlements of Ontarians with mental illness through rights advice, advocacy, and education * rights advice is a process where patients are informed of their rights and options when a psychiatrist changes their legal status under the Mental Health Act and related legislation 
Seven mandatory rights advice situations and change to involuntary status: 
* involuntary status renewals 
* incapacity to manage property 
* continuation of incapacity upon discharge in the community 
* informal patients (12-15 years old) 
* incapacity to consent to treatment of a mental disorder 
* issuance or renewal of a Community Treatment Order 
* incapacity to consent to collection use or disclosure of personal health information
