Ottawa Community Legal Clinic Amalgamation

September 19, 2016

You may have heard that three of Ottawa’s community legal clinics are planning to amalgamate into one organization. The legal clinics making these plans are Community Legal Services Ottawa Centre (1 Nicholas Street); South Ottawa Community Legal Services (1355 Bank Street); and West End Legal Services (1301 Richmond Road).

The legal clinics’ main goal is to improve the delivery of the services they provide to Ottawa’s low-income communities. Since 2014, they have done extensive consultation about their plans. In 2015, they received a report that recommended keeping the three existing offices and merging their three administrations into one. For example, there will be one Board of Directors for Ottawa instead of three separate Boards for different parts of the city. There will also be improved integration of services so there is “no wrong door” for clients. The legal clinics are on target to amalgamate by April 1, 2017.

An important part of their long planning process has been to keep people informed about it with a monthly newsletter.  More information is available at The French-language website site is at You can also sign up there to receive updates.
