Law Help Ontario

We are pleased to share with you information about our Wills Assistance Project.

This project closes the gap for low-income individuals, the terminally ill or single parents in the Ottawa area who would like to make a will, but cannot afford a lawyer. Eligible individuals can now have a simple will prepared for free.

This service is available to low-income Ontarians in the Ottawa area who do not currently have a will, cannot afford to hire a lawyer to help prepare their will, and cannot obtain assistance from other service providers.

Wills can be obtained in two simple steps:

1. Applying online ( or in person at our court-based Law Help Ontario location (161 Elgin Street room 5027 Ottawa, ON K1P 2K1); and

2. Meeting with a lawyer who will prepare the will, and have it signed and witnessed in accordance with Ontario law.

Estate planning services for low-income Ontarians are limited, like all Ontarians, their dignity at the end of life is enhanced when their affairs are in order. We are keen to help people achieve that outcome.
